July 8-Take Your Stand

Journey through Ephesians

Ephesians 6.10-12 “take your stand”

Focus Verse-Ephesians 6.11

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

Insight-If you aren’t convinced yet that there is a battle being waged for your life and the lives around you, it’s time to wake up!  Paul begins to address this battle in this section and how we must be engaged in the battle.  It is so easy to feel vulnerable and unprotected when we are feeling that our identity, our security, our significance, etc. are being attacked.  Paul reminds us that we are protected as long as we clothe ourselves with the protecting armor that God provides.  There is a sense, that we are already well aware of, that we cannot protect ourselves.  We’ve tried.  When it does work, it only works for a while.  God offers us all the protection that we need, if we would just use it.  Satan’s weapons of warfare are called schemes-deceit, trickery, etc.  His goal is to divert us from the truth, to divert us from God’s leadership.

The purpose of this armor is to take our stand against the Accuser and his attacks, his lies, his pursuit of destruction.  The idea of standing carried by the original Greek is to maintain, to stay put, to be kept safe, to be of steadfast mind, to not hesitate or waiver.  As I said earlier, we can’t do this in our own power-we’ve tried and it doesn’t work.  We need to look to God as our true provider and protector.  We need to rely on His truth and His ability to carry us through.

Active Response-I will stop trying to defend myself.  I will take the tools that God offers me and I will trust God to keep me safe.   I will ask God to open my eyes to the lies that Satan is attempting to use to isolate me and to break me away from God and others.

God of Truth, protect my heart and my mind.  Shine Your light into my life and expose the darkness.  Amen.
