June 6th-Under His Feet

Journey through Ephesians

Ephesians 1.22-23 “and God placed all things under his feet”

Focus Verse-Ephesians 1.22

22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church”

Insight-There’s a phrase we don’t use often.  Yet, it appears in the Scriptures quite a few times.  So what does it mean?  The first idea we get of something or someone being under feet is in Genesis 3.15 when God says to the serpent, “He will strike* your head, and you will strike his heel.”  This is the first time we are given the indication that God is going to rescue His people.  From this point on, when something is under one’s feet, it is a picture of authority and power, it even seems to have a sense of redemption to it.  A sense that along with all things being under Jesus feet there is not only authority, but redemption and restoration.

As Paul continues in verse 23, he tells us that this authority or headship is connected with the idea that we the Church are intimately connected and dependent on our leader Jesus who fills us with himself and in doing so fills everything in every way.  The idea of fullness here is the idea of completion or causing everything to be as it should be.  What a beautiful reality!  When we let Jesus lead, we give Him the freedom to fill us, to cause us to be all that we were created to be.

Response and Action-Today, I will give place myself where I belong-at the feet of Jesus.  I will choose to let Him lead me in my thoughts and actions.  I will intentionally give Jesus the freedom to fill me today, to cause me to become who He wants me to be.

Jesus, my King, thank you for pursuing me, for loving me, and for working to complete me.  Thank you for always being in control even when I try take that role from you.  You are patient with me.  Help me to live at your feet today.  Amen.
