June 5th-Open my Eyes

Journey through Ephesians

Ephesians 1.18-21 “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened”

Focus Verse-Ephesians 1.18

“18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his people,”

Insight-Hope is a beautiful thing, but I fear we don’t always quite understand it as it is.  Paul prays that “the eyes of our hearts”  would be opened so that the hope that we have been chosen for would become evident to us.  It’s not that we would see something that’s new, but that we would for the first time, see and begin to wrap our minds, and lives around something that has always been there!

Hope is a confident expectation-something that we are sure is going to happen, it has been promised and it will be fulfilled.  So what are we expecting?  We are expecting that one day, everything and everyone will come to be under the leadership of Christ-that all of creation, ourselves included, will be restored.  God’s grace will be complete in our lives!

Paul prays that we would discover that it is actually in process right now!  We are presently restored and are being restored.  When our eyes are opened to this hope, everything looks different, doesn’t it?

Response and Action-Today I will look for evidence of God’s hope.  I will look to see what God is doing in and around me and look to see how I can join Him in it.  I will live today in the confidence that this is not all there is, but that God is bringing everything back to the way it should be.  I want to be a part of that.

Victorious God, open the eyes of my heart to see You, to see You for who You really are and to see what You are really doing.  You call me one of the “riches of Your glorious inheritance.”  Reveal to me the value You place on me and those around me.  Help me to run with You in Your work of restoration and to rejoice in Your victory!  Amen.
