Journey through Ephesians

Ephesians 2.1-7 “Because of his great love for us”

Focus Verse-Ephesians 2.4-5

4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

Insight-What a power-packed verse!  God has made us alive, awakened us to true life with Christ not because of anything we’ve done or anything we have to offer in and of ourselves-we are dead in our rebellion and rejection of God.  But because he has a great love for us.  So many times we love people because of what they can do or have done for us, but here, God loves us because He is rich in mercy.  He has an overabundance of mercy for us.

God’s love makes us alive.  You know what it is like to truly feel loved-imagine the joy and life-giving nature of God’s love for us, when we finally allow ourselves to experience it!  What joy when I humble myself to acknowledge that the only reason I can be saved from my slavery to sin is the reality of God’s grace and love for me-so undeserved and so needed.

Response and Action-Today, I will rely on God’s grace to give me life.  I will embrace the reality of God’s love for me and recognize that it is a pure and beautiful, life-giving gift.

Father God, thank you for your love that is like no other.  You give it to me as a gift that I could never pay, yet it came to you at a great cost.  Fill my heart today with that love and let it spill out to all those around me.  Amen.
