[Read & meditate on Exodus 20.8-11. Why would God institue a practice of rest on the seventh day? What impact would this practice have on your life?]
It seems that God wants us to take a day of rest from all of the things that start to control our lives, the things that we start to depend on for our worth and value, our identity. He wants us to take time to re-establish for ourselves our relationships with Him, each other and the world around us–time to reclaim our rightful places. It’s time to be reminded that God loves me simply because I exist.
It seems that the biggest impact could be on my perspective of life. It’s a chance to get things back in order, to see life as it really is. It is so easy to get caught up in the day to day worries and get lost in them. This rest refocuses and renews. It reminds me that I don’t hold the world together and that’s a good thing.
Why are we so busy?
How badly do I need this rest?
