like Jesus:day 4
[Read & meditate on 1 Peter 2.21-25. According to this verse, what does it look like to become a disciple of Jesus?]
Ok, this isn’t what I signed up for. This wasn’t part of the invitation that I responded to. Isn’t becoming a Christian supposed to be the good life? It seems that we often get this idea that when we become Christians, God is now on our side, so everything should go our way–I mean, God loves me doesn’t he?
To enter into discipleship with Jesus is to enter into suffering. Why? Maybe it’s because we understand and are understanding more and more that the world is not what it should be. We long for the restoration of creation and join God in making it happen, but there is opposition from a world and an enemy that oppose it. We even oppose it within ourselves, and maybe suffering is the only way that we will enter the crucible of transformation and the way that we will pursue true transformation.
Jesus suffered more than we would ever comprehend for the purposes of love and putting things back together. Are we willing to join him?
What is my perspective of suffering?
How do I respond to suffering?
Why do I suffer?
Do I try to avoid suffering in my life?
What does it mean to embrace suffering?
Does Jesus really think I can handle it? Do I?
