August 3-Disadvantages?

Journey through 1 Samuel

1 Samuel 13.16-22 “not a soldier with Saul and Jonathan had a sword or spear”

Focus Verse-1 Samuel 13.22

So on the day of the battle not a soldier with Saul and Jonathan had a sword or spear in his hand; only Saul and his son Jonathan had them

Insight-This is an interesting passage of Scripture.  Why would the writer feel that it’s important to let us know that the Philistines had been oppressing the Israelites in such a way that they were preventing anyone else from having weapons like theirs.  They were doing everything to ensure that they had the power, that they were in control.

This is actually great, because the Israelites had nothing left but to trust God, which, as long as it’s someone else, it seems like a good idea.  But think about it, if you really believe that God is who He says it is, it doesn’t matter what appearance of power is against God and His people, God is still bigger and more powerful.

Active Response-It is so easy for me to lose sight of where the real power in this world is.  Why do I forget so easily, or even just fail to trust God and His power?  I want to trust and enjoy that God is the ultimate, most real power in this world, which means I should seek to live loyally with Him.

Father, thank you for being the real Power.  Increase my confidence in You and my commitment to You.  Amen.
