1 Samuel 2.1-11″I delight in your deliverance”
Focus Verse-1 Samuel 2.1
“Then Hannah prayed and said:
“My heart rejoices in the LORD;
in the LORD my horn is lifted high.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
for I delight in your deliverance.”
Insight-I love to think about God’s identity as our Deliverer. This is what Hannah celebrates at this time. She lived in a time where a woman’s value was in her ability to produce children and as she brings this desire of hers to God. It is interesting to see that Hannah’s heart rejoices in the LORD, not her deliverance, not her child, etc. She makes an interesting statement that is explained here:
mine horn is exalted in the Lord—Allusion is here made to a peculiarity in the dress of Eastern women about Lebanon, which seems to have obtained anciently among the Israelite women, that of wearing a tin or silver horn on the forehead, on which their veil is suspended. Wives, who have no children, wear it projecting in an oblique direction, while those who become mothers forthwith raise it a few inches higher, inclining towards the perpendicular, and by this slight but observable change in their headdress, make known, wherever they go, the maternal character which they now bear.
It doesn’t matter how others may choose to see her, God has delivered her and given her a new identity. She has a new character, given to her by God and she will boldly let everyone know. How has God delivered you? Is this apparent to others? Are you boldly proclaiming your deliverance?
Active Response-I will assess all of the ways that God has delivered me and will seek to live in a way that proclaims that deliverance.
Delivering Savior, thank you for rescuing me from all of my emptiness and bondage and for bringing me into a new life. Amen.
