let’s eat:day three
[Read & meditate on Luke 7.36-50. Reflect on who Jesus showed love and acceptance to at this meal.]
First of all, Jesus shares the meal with a Pharisee, named Simon. Even though Jesus had the most pointed comments for Pharisee types, he was still willing to share a meal with them–to show acceptance to them. Later an “immoral” woman comes in. She was most likely a courtesan to the Roman court–they paid their courtesans with fine oils and perfumes. This means that she was not only selling her body, but she was doing so with the people who were oppressing the Jewish people. Jesus receives her and her gifts, regardless of how she obtained them. He received them as they were given, from a heart that he loved.
