hell on earth:day three
[Reflecting on our definition of heaven, hell would be a place where God’s will is never done. Perhaps hell is a place where my will takes precedence over God’s will. What would that look like?]
This reminds me of the movie, “Bruce Almighty.” If you remember, Jim Carrey’s character, Bruce, is allowed to experience some of God’s powers for a while and so he does what most of us would do, he seeks to accomplish his own will. Unfortunately, what happens is, in a sense, all hell breaks loose, and there is a lot of chaos, confusion, and pain. I get the sense that when I start to place my will above God’s I become incredibly myopic and start to create a lot of selfish chaos, confusion and pain. I find myself becoming more isolated, more miserable and more frustrated. Why do I keep going back to that?

It’d probably be this kid who goes around, and he thinks about God and Heaven a lot. He’s a thinker, a talker, but he’s not a doer. His life consists of worrisome anticipation. He doesn’t have much of an ambition to change his ways. He’s much rather convince himself that he’s already where he needs to be.
But any amount of clever reasoning won’t chase Hell away. Sometimes this is quite evident; other times it is easily ignored.
