the message:day 3

[Read & meditate on Matthew 4.17. How does Jesus’ message apply to you?]

“Return to the way things are supposed to be, I am launching God’s project of putting you and the rest of this world back together–it’s time!” As we unpack this message, we start to discover that this is what Jesus is saying. Jesus wants me to go back to the life I was created to have–a life in harmony with God, other people and the world around me. He is inviting me to experience the rescue that he offers me from my own selfishness, pride, lust, shame, fear, hate, etc. He invites me to enter into the life my soul longs for–a life of lasting significance. It is essentially the invitation in Matthew 11.28-30:

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me–watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhthyms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.

I can relinquish control of my own kingdom of self and realize that it’s not just ok–it’s good. It’s the way it’s supposed to be.

Am I engaging in putting people back together? Physically? Spiritually? Relationally?
Am I seeing my relationship with God being put back together?
Am I doing anything to put the world back together?
Whose kingdom do I live in?
