July 18-Your Servant is Listening

Journey through 1 Samuel

1 Samuel 3.1-4.1 “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Focus Verse-1 Samuel 3.10

The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Insight-What a simple yet powerful interaction.  First of all, why is it so hard to hear God calling us?  There is so much noise in our lives, maybe God isn’t silent, we just can’t hear Him through the noise.  And then when we do, we don’t know how to respond.  I love the fact that Eli had to tell Samuel how to respond.  That brings me some measure of encouragement.  I also love the fact that Samuel refers to himself as God’s servant.  Not only is He listening, but he is ready to respond with action and obedience.

Active Response-I need to learn to reduce the miscellaneous noise in my life so that I can tune into God’s voice  calling me and guiding me.  I want to be able to recognize His voice as clearly as I recognize the voices of my family and friends.  And I want to be in a place where my response is,”Say whatever You want to say God, I am Your servant and I am listening.”

Loving God, speak Your loving, lifting, correcting, guiding words to me.  Teach me to hear You clearly and to respond quickly.  Amen.
